Get free training through the government’s new Six Month Offer
Have you been unemployed for six months or more? Do you want to get the skills you need to get a job with good long-term prospects? This is what the Six Month Offer is all about, so read on….
How does it work?
Through the Six Month Offer you can get the skills you need and the skills local employers need. At the start, advisers help you to decide which skills you want to work on. They’ll also talk to you about which skills local employers have told them they need. Based on this, you’ll work out a training plan to get you where you want to be.
To start you off, you and your adviser will agree on a training course of between two and eight weeks. It’s a short course to begin with, but your learning will count towards a recognised work-related qualification. And if you get a job during or after your training, you should get the opportunity to continue working towards the full qualification, probably as a part-time or evening course.

What's in it for me?
You can use the Six Month Offer to get the skills you need to move back into the type of work you’ve done before. You can use it to get a qualification to back up your ‘on the job’ experience. You can also use it to get skills for a new area of work. It doesn’t matter if you’ve already got qualifications – you can still take a course to train for a new job.
To be eligible you need to:
- be aged 19 or over
- be receiving Jobseekers’ Allowance
- have been unemployed for six months or more.
