Who's who at the helpline

Here's a quick Who's Who

An Information Adviser will answer your call. They help you with finding a course, or arrange for info to be sent to you.

A Learning Adviser can help you if you need info on a particular career, or advice on funding or childcare. You may be transferred to a Learning Adviser.

A Careers Coach can help you decide which career is best for you. Based on your skills and interests, they'll work with you on an action plan. These calls can take up to 30 minutes, so make sure you're sitting comfortably and have a cuppa!

The advisers aim to put your needs first. If they can't give you the info you want, they'll know someone who can.

When you call, it will help if you:

  • Choose a time when you won't be disturbed
  • Find a quiet room - make sure the TV and radio are off!
  • Jot down a few notes about yourself and what you'd like to talk about (you'll also need the pen and paper for any contact details the adviser gives you)

What will the adviser ask me?

The adviser will ask you what you want advice on. Advisers will only give you information you want, when you want it, and how you want it. They won't steer you down a particular road or try to sell you something. Our service is free, impartial and confidential.

Advisers may ask for personal information. This is to give the most appropriate advice, based on your circumstances. It also helps us know who's calling the helpline, so we can be sure we're reaching everyone. However, you don't have to give personal information if you don't want to - it's all voluntary.

The Careers Advice helpline is a great way to get learning and careers information, so, call us on 0800 100 900, and see what you can achieve!

Call us now, we're here from 8am to 10pm, seven days a week.
